30th January - Hannah Scott

The best stories elicit profound personal reactions and in the 15 years she has been writing and performing, Hannah Scott has become a consummate storyteller. Her music is shaped by human stories, with family, in all its chaos and glory, sitting at the heart of her work. Her lyrics are powerful and poignant, and her voice feels strangely familiar, though you can’t quite put your finger on why. Her writing may be deeply personal but her music has a universal appeal that extends beyond the melodies you catch yourself humming days after listening to her songs.

28th February - Isle 'Ave a Shanty

Isle ‘Ave A Shanty are a 6 piece A Capella male harmony group based on the Isle of Ely. They specialise in traditional songs from the sea and the country in a folk style as well as putting a folk twist on some modern classics! They are a rarity in being a sea shanty band from a landlocked county but they bring their own style to traditional songs and songs they made up themselves.

Their live show is all about camaraderie, fun and interaction. Be ready to sing along heartily and join in with the actions as they take you on a journey across the oceans, through the countryside and maybe a few songs about grog, noggins and even a drop of Nelson’s blood.

14th March - Megson

Combining an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars, MEGSON have gained a reputation not only for their arresting & intelligent songwriting, but also for their exquisite musicianship and northern humour. Comprising Debs Hanna (Vocals, Whistle, Piano Accordion) and Stu Hanna (Guitar, Mandola, Banjo) MEGSON have been described as as “the most original duo on the British folk scene” by THE GUARDIAN and as FROOTS Magazine puts it ‘if you don’t like the music here then you have a problem’.

11th April - Detta Kenzie

Detta Kenzie is an English folk singer creating original songs alongside reworking traditional music. With both Irish and Scottish heritage, Detta is committed to collecting, restoring and sharing songs passed down in the oral tradition.

In her original work, a deep connection to the natural world is ever present. Inspired by place names, specific references to locations in Britain, Ireland and Australia bring a strength to Detta’s creations. Themes of womanhood, grief, rebellion and rage can be found in her deeply narrative based songs.

23rd May - Honey And The Bear

Honey & the Bear have been a tour de force on the UK Folk Festival circuit in recent years. The British folk and roots duo combine delicately interweaving vocal harmonies with emotive and evocative songwriting. With a diverse range of sounds and textures, and rhythms that flow from the fast and furious to gentle ballads, their live performances are spirited and dynamic. Conjuring stories in song, they tell tales of Suffolk folklore, courageous people they admire and their passion for nature which has been enchanting audiences up and down the country.

13th June - Double Header - Paul Mclure and My Girl The River

Paul McClure is a singer and songwriter from Rutland, England where he lives with his wife and daughters. He takes his inspiration from his world and the people in it.

“I suppose it all began in the back seat with The Beatles. Then it was Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Jonny Cash. My mum was a big Roy Orbison fan and I think John Denver and The Everly Brothers came via her too. By the time I made it into the front seat I was soaking up everything I could lay my ears on – I was into Bob Dylan, The Band and Leonard Cohen with a passion by then as well as the folk revival scene – which pretty much ruined my teenage years at school as it isn’t easy being the only 13 year old in your class with a Joan Baez tape in your bag.

My Girl The River is the work of Louisiana to Nashville to London songwriter and performer Kris Wilkinson Hughes. Described as 'Nashville meets southern gothic' and with 'sugared espresso' vocals, Kris' songwriting has been compared to Jason Isbell and Lucinda Williams. Along with her husband, bassist and songwriter Joe Hughes, they bring a genre blend of Americana, folk, roots and more. From tears to sing-a-longs, My Girl The River always delivers a great live music experience.

19th September - Fred's House

Fred’s House are an award-winning band based in Cambridge. They make summery, 70’s West Coast inspired folk/rock but have their own distinctively fresh sound that is very much part of now. This group of musicians have the rare ability to sweep you away with their gorgeous harmonies, moving lyrics, infectious melodies and uplifting grooves. Among their many influences are the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Lissie and Janice Joplin.

19th October - Thomas Benjamin Wild And The Happy Chaps

With banjolele in hand, viral sensation Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq. has been delivering his own brand of singalong, musical humour since 2016. The video for his sweary anthem ‘I’ve No More F***s To Give’ has been viewed over 17 million times on YouTube alone, and his debut album ‘Awkward Encounters While Walking My Dog’ reached number 3 in the Billboard Comedy Album Chart in 2019.

Thomas takes inspiration from the wit and wisdom of the songwriters of the early-mid 20th century and combines them with punk rock sensibilities to create pithy songs full of catchy tunes and social and political commentary that speak volumes about the times we live in.

14th November - Banter

Banter are: Simon Care on melodeon & concertina, Nina Zella on keyboards & vocals, Tim Walker on drums, percussion, brass, guitar, bass & vocals and Mark Jolley on bass, fiddle, guitar & vocals.

Four fine musicians whose roots are firmly in the traditional English genre, but who enjoy stretching the limits.

Formed in 2015, they realised that a common love for the living traditions of English song and dance music was at their core and began to pursue it’s evolution, bringing in flavours from a wider palette of musical influences.

They have gained a reputation for being powerfully unique in the English traditional music genre.
